Damaris Drewry Ph.D. Psychology - Bio and Story
I am passionately interested in Sleep Apnea: It is one of those issues that wrecks people's lives. An "incurable" diagnosis in itself creates stress, fear, anxiety, panic, and a sense of hopelessness and helplessness. This intolerable problem is unnecessary for millions of people worldwide. As of January 2019 I remain the world's authority on identifying and eliminating idiopathic (trauma-based) Central Nervous System Sleep Apnea (CSA). I discovered the link between PTSD and CSA in 2008 and have helped about 200 people clear PTSD, apnea and snoring, by stopping cues and triggers that cause all three. I have copyrighted every article I have written since 2009.
I am still doing private sessions online working as a team with my clients. The first step for them is a consultation. In 2019 I will begin to offer custom programs for corporations who want to help their employees feel, sleep, and work better.
Health Care Practitioners can enroll in my Central Sleep Apnea webinar training series to learn how to help thousands of people who suffer needlessly from PTSD-based Central Nervous System Apnea. A new book launch is planned for January 2019. Sign up to get updates about the availability of the webinar training program design for Energy Psychology practitioners.
Past positions prior to self-employment in 1989 include Bell Canada and the Canadian and US governments.
My undergraduate degree was earned at the University of Guelph, Ontario Canada. Masters and Doctorate degrees were earned at the California Institute for Human Science in 2002.
A few thoughts about my private practice and what motivates me:
My greatest strength is that I am an out-of-the-box-thinker and I enjoy working with topics that are considered "incurable" or phenomenological, using alternative modalities and a somatic psychology perspective.
In private practice (29 years) I consider it an honor to be trusted, and I have learned something from every person who has been my client. Finding solutions that help people recover their lives is something I truly enjoy.
INCURABLE (?) ISSUES: Issues that are considered "incurable" intrigue me because they are often a manifestation of conflict between body and mind. With all due respect to traditional medicine which saves many lives, I believe it's wise to try to find and clear any emotional root causes underlying physical issues before assigning a terribly stressful "incurable" diagnosis. Most people who have any type of illness that doesn't respond to traditional treatments are unwilling to challenge their doctors for more information because they are intimidated.
My clients have brought a wide variety of difficult physical and emotional issues, and my goal is to show them how to empower themselves as quickly as possible. You can see how well I've done this by viewing testimonials on this website and on my original Beyond Talk Therapy website.
Hidden solutions intrigue me, and the one thing I look for is METAPHORS (click here to see a video example of working metaphors to clear apnea). What is the metaphor for the illness, and where does it show up in the body, or in relationships.
When I started working with sleep apnea clients, I discovered that for them, Obstructive Apnea was not their problem. I discovered that PTSD from even one severely traumatizing event can cause Central Nervous System Apnea which can be cleared by addressing the traumatizing events. Most people have more than one type of trauma, or repetitions of the same type.
The task before me is to provide information that changes the way the world understands sleep apnea. It's not much of a stretch to see that that whole of humanity is traumatized, and many people struggle to breathe during sleep because traumatic memories are replaying at subconscious levels as if the events are still happening.
Pioneering People Who Have Influenced Me Personally and Professionally
Candace Pert, PhD - identified neuropeptides as "molecules of Emotion" and demonstrated that memory is non-local (not confined only to the brain).
Peter Levine, PhD - took the understanding of trauma light years ahead with his books and somatic approach to clearing physical and emotional illness.
Bruce Lipton, PhD - who struggled at first for acceptance among his colleagues, but leaped far ahead of everyone with his book "the Biology of Belief".
SHORT BIO: Damaris Drewry, Ph.D. Psychology, remains the authority on remediating Central Nervous System Sleep Apnea. By working experimentally in 2008 with a client who had been using a CPAP for 15 years, she discovered the cause of his apnea to be a single near-drowning event and its resulting PTSD. Even though he was diagnosed with OSA and fit the stereotype for it, he had Central Apnea. Since 2008 she has helped several hundred people rid themselves of Central Sleep Apnea by resolving the traumatizing events that caused it. She looks forward to further quantitative research to validate the efficacy of her work and is actively seeking a joint venture partner to fund before-and-after-treatment sleep studies.
Dr. Drewry has created and facilitated 3000+ hours of self-empowerment workshops privately, for ISSSEEM (the Institute for the Study of Subtle Energy Medicine), ACEP (the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology), IONS (the Institute for Noetic Sciences), many hospices, and The American Holistic Nurses Association.
